How we research
Primary sources first, and named sources always. Opening hours and prices come from the operator: Turismo UC for the university circuit, the Unidade Pastoral Aeminium for the cathedrals and Santa Cruz, the state ticketing portal for national monuments, Infraestruturas de Portugal and CP for the railway, SMTUC for the lift and the buses, and the DGADR traditional-products register for what a dish actually is and where it comes from. Where only a named travel writer has documented something, we say which writer.
The rule on things we cannot verify
We publish the gap. If an official body does not publish a figure, no figure appears on this site — not an estimate, not a rounded version of something we read elsewhere, not a number carried over from memory. Every page that has one says so in the text, and several of them say it more than once.
The same rule applies to claims that circulate widely without a source. A frequently repeated line about how Coimbra fado audiences applaud appears nowhere we could check, so it does not appear here. Neither does a Michelin star widely attributed to a Coimbra restaurant whose own website claims none.
Fact-checking
Every hour, price and date is checked against its source before publication, and re-checked when a page is updated. Where sources disagree — and in Coimbra they do, notably on two restaurant addresses — we print the disagreement rather than picking a side silently.
Update policy
Every page shows its last update. Tickets, hours and festival dates are reviewed each season; everything else at least annually. Transport pages are reviewed whenever an operator publishes a change, because this city’s network changed twice in twenty months.
